Version 1
One of Octavio’s offspring. A child born to a mother who wanted to climb to the top of society, and was more than happy to use relationships and children to do so. However, 8 was born with a few issues, likely related to their father being a walking antique. One issue, related or not, is being born intersex: for both versions of them, they are CAMAB.
For Ahri that is correct, but he grows up with the complex of having something wrong with him. The issue particularly affects him as he is male royalty who is likely unable to have children. So he is put into hardcore training, particularly military training, which he strongly dislikes.
Aya grows up the same, but after hitting puberty, she’s obviously of the female phenotype, which causes her mother even more annoyance as the less-common males are more desirable. In her eyes, she now just has an even less useful female.
They both dealt with hating their lives & probably some other trauma growing up, so developed a habit of dissociating to escape it. After having their memories wiped in Octo Expansion, this issue is decently cleared up, but having all their memories inserted on top of their new memories after Side Order makes that issue a lot worse than it used to be. This is because they already struggled with their identity pre-sanitization, and post-OE they basically were able to create entirely new identities from scratch. Having this identity existing + their old identities implanted on top of that, causes some very bad brain issues.
Their birth name is Solfeo. Their specific gender identities are confusing in the end, though do just go by man / woman respectively.

From the kettles, he's struggled with memory issues from a young age. He lived with his mother, who is a high-up military technician and kept very high standards of him. However, he had the opposite of her strict and passionate personality, being naturally laid back, friendly, and wanting nothing more than to find out how to avoid military school. His personality made him quite popular (especially with girls).
He is actually from the surface originally, and was kidnapped into the kettles as an infant, something that was made to be blocked from his memories. This set up the mental precedent to block out and dissociate from unpleasant memories and situations. And so, when put into military school, he started to dissociate from the experience and develop a colder and more serious personality in order to deal with the situation better. His (seemingly) new personality disorder started to cause some concern, but he got taken into Kamabo before much was done about that.
In Kamabo, after he went through the first stage of sanitization (stripping of personality and memories), his dissociative personality took over entirely and he lost his original one. Given he never recovers his original memories (until Side Order, but leave that for now), he has no reason to believe he wasn't just a serious military type beforehand, especially since he is very good at all the challenges.
Current

While he struggles a bit dealing with surface life and coping with all that happened to him, he's nice and appreciative to those helping him (even if he sometimes comes off as cold). 4 ends up being the main one to support him with casual daily stuff, especially since they both live in the same area (and she likes to help people in less...physically confrontational ways like agent work is). Despite this, he crushes on 3, though never outwardly admits it to anyone. He's not great at hiding it, though 3 doesn't seem to notice.
Everyone continued to call him Eight as he never recovered his memories of what his name is, so he ended up just coming up with the name Ahri. He says the name is meaningless, and is just less insulting than a number is. After Side Order, he gets all his memories back, including those he's repressed over his childhood. This does not do good things for his mental state.

But because of her early childhood experiences, she is very empathetic for (Octoling) boys. It also gives her a bit of a complex and confusion towards herself.
