Born in Unova, she grew up in an upper-middle class household. Not having anything particularly disruptive happen in her life, her main issue was being disengaged with the world around her and being heavily into social media and presenting herself. After she turned 18, her mother decided to move back to her home country of Kalos, and invited Serena to either move with her, or stay in America with her father to go to university at home. She chose Kalos.
Her fantasy of a perfect country was quickly shattered when she found out her neighbour is Yves, a depressed and apparently schizophrenic teen her age. The two of them, along with Shauna, are invited to visit a nearby city to get starters and try out the league challenge as a celebration of turning 18.
